Project Volunteer

Project Description

This is my own project that I have been interested in for a long time. I have done a lot of volunteer work and have found that people like to help when it is easy and set up for them. Often, though, volunteers go to the large organizations that are well publicized, like Habitat for Humanity, and there is actually an excess of volunteers with not much to do. Meanwhile, other organizations that are less well-known fail to receive needed work.

I hope to help publicize all organizations. I also think it will be easier to obtain volunteers for needed tasks if the organizations break them into easily accomplished chunks so that volunteers can easily accomplish a needed task. That also helps virtually all people to feel they have something to contribute, and prevents current volunteers from getting burned out by having to accomplish all tasks. An example of a smaller tasks might be "We need someone with a truck to help us move some lumber for 2 hours on Saturday."

This site would also incorporate a "Mission Quiz" which helps people uncover their hidden talents that might be useful to an organization. I also want to get corporations involved for financial support and some fun "Brownie Points." I hope to pitch this to some foundations eventually.

This is the first draft of the home page. I have also built a responsive Axure prototype for the website plus a prototype of the iPhone app, and some page flows.
