Lexis® for Microsoft Office® - Lexis Advance®

Project Description

Lexis® for Microsoft Office® is a ribbon for Microsoft Office® (Word and Outlook) that contains Lexis® research and other functions. Some functions produce a split screen where the user's brief is on the left and Lexis® research is on the right. The user can cut and paste or drag and drop passasges from the various legal documents (cases, statutes, law review articles, etc.) and the program will not only add the citation, but will keep track of its proper citation format relative to the other citations, even if the user moves it around or adds additional citations above or below it. This project involved switching the research portion from the old Lexis.com platform to the new Lexis Advance® platform, which has an entirely new search engine and new features.

My Work

My task was to cleverly replicate all of the major functions of Lexis Advance, while working within the confines of it being only a half-width panel. Furthermore, there were real estate issues because this product was a Windows plug-in, such that certain rows belonged to the plug-in itself and only some belonged to Lexis Advance.
